Needs Assessment: There is a high unemployment rate among Arlington, Texas residents, particularly in the central, east, and north sections of the city. While many of the unemployed residents have marketable skills sought by local employers, they often lack necessary skills such as resume writing and interviewing skills. Each year since 2009, the Texas Workforce Commission has partnered with churches or civic groups to offer two Job Fairs per year, which have all been very successful in reducing our unemployment rate. The TWC is seeking a service organization to assist with a Job Fair in north central Arlington, where they have not held one before. Our club is seeking to be more involved in an area of Vocational Service.
Project: We will partner with the TWC to present a Job Fair in March, 2015. TWC will provide advertising, a bus equipped with 8 computers, booths with services to job seekers, as well as numerous prospective employers. TWC has strict guidelines for these employers, and requires that each one offer a minimum of ten jobs. Employers with multiple locations, such as grocery store chains, are allowed one booth for all locations. Door-to-door sales companies are not allowed to participate. Arlington's First United Methodist Church, a large church located in north central Arlington and is the location for weekly meetings of Rotary Club of Arlington, has agreed to let us use their facilities for a Job Fair. Rotarians will assist TWC staff in providing free workshops in resume writing, interviewing skills, and as greeters at the event. The event will be offered free of charge to both employers and job seekers.
