Project Description

Country: USA

Location: United States

Total Budget: $6,000

Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: Missionvale built a new middle school and now needs a place for the kids to get some physical exercise.

1. How will the project meet the need: Activity Description: Provide physical activity equipment for the Missionvale Care Center Primary School. This equipment will support the physical and educational development of underprivileged children from the Missionvale Township and supports the local community by providing equipment that will facilitate team building, personal health and fitness as part of the primary school education. Sports, fitness and health education is being incorporated into the Missionvale curriculum and will support the needs of children who otherwise do not have access to facilities to promote healthful lifestyles and structured physical development. This grant will develop a basis upon which the community will develop its young children who will learn the life skills to enhance the overall community through fitness and healthful life style choices.

2. Timeline: The Equipment will be purchased and installed within six months of grant approval.

3. Member involvement: I and several members of the Coronado Rotary Club have made trips to Missionvale in support of their efforts to help the local township. The Coronado Rotary has made several trips over the past years and has teamed with the local Port Elizabeth- West Rotary clubs to provide assistance, both financially and through direct labor support. The Past District Governor of PE-West can provide direct oversight of the project in country and I will work with him to ensure a smooth transition of funding and any other needs that Coronado Rotary might be able to provide. Coronado Rotary is tentatively planning another trip to Missionvale during the next 18 months as part of its on-going support for Missionvale and the people in need in the Port Elizabeth South African Township.
