The particular school was chosen amongst other from contact with the school districts, school principal and several teachers. these schools belong to school districts where funding for modern technology such as tablets and computers are still lacking. From meetings and contacts with the designated professionals, needs were established and taken back to the club by a designated Rotarian incharge of the education literacy committee created for that particular purpose. It then gets voted and approved by the club, and funds allotted to buy the dictionaries. The 3rd graders selected by the club live in the low income, under-privileged low socio-economic communities that has limited access to books, school materials and other school supplies due to lack of funding. The 3rd graders were chosen due to research of school studies showed that the 3rd grade level is the level where the grasp of the fundamentals of reading and writing is most influential in determining their future chosen vocation. A dictionary would help them enhance their understanding of words, spell the words correctly which in turn widens their vocabulary and comprehension. This experience would also pave the way for children to love books. This was demonstrated to us Rotarians of the club when we distributed dictionaries to one of the schools last year, children were so excited and they carried their dictionaries like it was their most precious possession. The dictionaries are distributed during the start of the school year and most of the club members participate in the packaging, affixing of the Rotary Wheel label and the 4 Way test on the cover of every book and distribution of the books. The class usually have a ceremony attended by principal and teachers and other dignitaries of the school selected.
