Project Description Country: USA Location: San Diego, California Total Budget: $4,000 Area of Focus: Maternal and child health Activity Type: Health: Volunteer Services Summary: The Women's Resource Fair is a one-day event that provides essential medical and other services to women and their children. The Women's Resource Fair is an annual one-day event held at the San Diego Civic Center to benefit homeless, battered and indigent women and their children. A volunteer task force, including members of Rotary help organize and volunteer on the day of the event. In 2014, over 736 women in need and their at-risk children were assisted. The basic needs of these women, many of whom are homeless and victims of domestic violence were addressed. The services they received included medical assistance, legal services, employment opportunity and vocational rehabilitation along with counseling and assistance obtaining other vitally needed services. The funding of this grant will be specifically used to provide meals to the women and children on the day of the event. For some, this is their only meal of the day. Providing meals on this day allows the women to take full advantage of the opportunities and counseling made available. Rotarians will prepare and serve the meals. None of these funds will used for administrative purpose.
