Summary: Providing new books to students in grades 4, 5 & 6, which are read to by club members, as well as purchasing furniture and needed items for the school's library.
This is a companion request to Project P-636, which is for a $1,000 Literacy Grant to facilitate the purchase of books for students in Kindergarten through grade 3. San Diego Rotary also provides new books to students in grades 4,5 & 6. Funds from this request will be used to purchase those books, as well. In addition, the school library does not have tables and chairs to accommodate younger students, which has discouraged them from using the library. Funds will be used to purchase the needed furniture. The exact cost is unknown at this time. Any excess funds will be used for other improvements to the library. Cesar Chavez Elementary is located in Southeast San Diego, near the boundary with National City. It serves a low to moderate income area, largely made up of Hispanic families. The school does not have the financial resources, enjoyed by many schools in more affluent areas. PLEASE NOTE: The "Total Budget" includes costs reported in the P-636 request and the "Club Contribution" is "net" of the $1,000 Literacy Grant.
