Everyday 25,000 people die from hunger and hunger related causes. Malnourishment weakens the immune system and makes individuals unable to recover from even the most common illnesses. We, as Rotarians from Placentia, CA, will work together to package over 20,000 food packages containing nutritious dehydrated meals of rice, soy, vegetables, flavorings and 21 essential vitamins and minerals. These meals are then easily transported to crisis-burdened areas or supplied to school feeding programs around the world. The meals cost $0.23 per meal to create and each package contains six meals.
Our club along with our families and friends will meet at a local church or school cafeteria and will be able to package these 20,000 within a 4 hour period, We anticipate to have the exact date seat as a Saturday in the month of November, 2014. We would like to pledge $2500 from our club with a request of a matching grant of the same amount. The total of $5000 will enable us to supply 21,750 packaged meals.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
Date of Project - 11/15/14
To clarify - at $.23/ea we will be packaging 21,739 meals. This includes delivery, all the components of the meal, pick up and shipping to it's final destination. We have requested the meals be designated for delivery to an area of need in the USA.
As with this same project last year, we requested the photographer from the Orange County Register attend the event while it was in progress. This year, we plan to invite the community reporter so that there will be an article included with the photos.
We anticipate 75-80 Rotarians, spouses, friends/family, Interact and Rotaractors. In addition, this year the event is being held at Rose Drive Friends Church and they have expressed a desire to assist with the project.
