Provision of food through the Yorba Linda Food for Families food bank, feeding needy families in Yorba Linda and immediate surrounding area as a Community project. We calculate that the funds we provide, along with other donors, enables us to feed the equivalent of 1000 people monthly, i.e. 12,000 for the year. This Food bank is now officially recognized as an EFAP agency - Emergency Food Assistance program. We obtain a considerable amount of the food at very low rates through and in association with the Second Harvest Food Banks. Four Rotarians volunteer weekly to help pack food into bags for each family, ensuring a balanced diet. Almost 100% of the club members volunteer as the year progresses.
Additionally, Yorba Linda Sunrise also provides backpacks and school supplies for schoolchildren of the families needing food assistance. This is a separate function and we allocate $25 per child for that action, which will be implemented the week, August 13th.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
The budget is revised to $1,500 from the club and $1,500 from DDF, for a total of $3,000.
The Expenditure is scheduled as follows:
$25 per child for back pack for school: this has been deleted from this project and we will handle that as a separate project funded totally from the club to avoid confusion.
The full budget will be spent on food for the Food Bank will be used on a monthly basis. I.e. $3000, with a planned spend of $300 monthly, the first Wednesday of each month. As July and August are past, we will be spending the $300 monthly for 10 months remaining of this Rotary Year 2014-2015.
Yorba Linda Sunrise members will be asked to supplement the monthly amount as needed in the event of an emergency.
