Matching District Grant
Boys and Girls Club Christmas
This is a synopsis of the purpose for the request of the Matching District Grant. The funding for this project will allow the club to increase the budget for the children of the Boys and Girls Club Christmas. The Boys and Girls Club has experienced an enrollment increase of approximately 20%. This translates to an increase to 250 children daily from 200 last year. Most of these children barely have their basic needs met. The Cypress Rotary Club would like to be able to provide clothing and a toy for each child that is identified to be in need for extra support at Christmas. This will be in conjunction with the annual spaghetti Christmas dinner the Cypress Club does for the children and their families.
Project Time Frame:
The beginning date is December 2, 2014
This date is when the Cypress Club will begin all the shopping for the children's clothing, toys and the Christmas spaghetti dinner.
The ending date is December 12, 2014
This is the anticipated date of the Boys and Girls Club Christmas spaghetti dinner.
How the Children are chosen to receive clothing and gifts:
Each child's circumstance is screened by the Board of the Boys and Girls Club. The determination is based on the child's home life, which is communicated by the parents and the ability for the parents to pay the child's tuition. Often times, these children's tuition is "scholarshipped" by the Boys and Girls Club. Additionally, when the children are selected who are in need, the parents are interviewed to determine clothing items and sizes most needed and the children complete a wish list of gifts they want from Santa. The clothing and toys will be purchased from Target. The Cypress Club partners with Target who gives the Cypress Club a 10% discount on all items purchased for this project. The Cypress Club projects to be able to buy for 42 children.
Community Awareness of the Rotary Project:
Community awareness of this project will happen in several ways. The first will be the updates and photos on the various social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as the new Club Website that is pending. Further, the Chamber sends out a monthly community newsletter that the Cypress Club will submit pictures and article for print.
Participation:
In the past three years, the Cypress Club has had an 80% participation rate. The members purchase clothing, toys, food, prepares the spaghetti dinner and coordinates with the Boys and Girls Club. The Cypress Club also partners with Fire Station # 17, who brings in Santa Clause to distribute the gifts to the children.
Budget:
The projected budget including the anticipated Matching Grant is as follows:
Food Items: $500.00
Clothing Items and Toys: $2,500.00
Total $3,000.00
