The goal of the Dictionary Project is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary. The dictionaries are a gift to each student to use at school and at home for years to come. Educators see third grade as the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn, so The Rotary Club of Escondido gives dictionaries each year to children in the third grade.
The Escondido Rotary Club will focus on third grade students in the Escondido Union School District. EUSD has 9 Title 1 elementary schools and 2 Title 1 Middle Schools. Escondido Rotary purchases books for the 3rd graders in 12 of the 18 schools, with a focus on the 9 Low income schools in Escondido, CA.
