Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Boise, ID

Total Budget: $11,500

Area of Focus: Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: Renovation

Summary: Provide new benches and signs for Table Rock, a Boise icon.

Table Rock is a symbol of Boise. It is on our club banner. Thousands of people climb it every year and it one of the first places that people new to Boise visit.

It needs new graffiti-resistant benches and signs to explain about Table Rock and the trail system of which it is a part. This will be an ongoing project and may take 3 years to complete. It requires the demolition of the present bench, installation of 7 benches and 5 signs. The demolition is $3100. Each bench costs $2800 (material and labor). Each sign is $1900 Boise East is going to aggressively seek funds through a variety of sources in order to have the project completed in one year. The District Block Grant will be a good start to make sure that Rotary receives recognition of its work on this project.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

Interim Report: The project has $9872.09 on deposit with the District 5400 Charitable Programs, Inc. in a Table Rock account. The club also has $2,829.66 in funds it has allocated for the project, but not yet spent. We paid $850.00 to Great Scot Creations for a prototype bench to determine any issues that may arise with production of the benches. We also paid $1000 to Sector 17 to paint murals on the outbuildings at the top of Table Rock.

This means that to date, $14,551.75 has been either spent or allocated to the project.

The club held a media event on April 18, 2015. At that event, Sector 17 painted two of the buildings. Channels 6 and 2 showed up and posted stories on their newscasts. There was also an article in The Statesman regarding the event and what the club is doing. Members of the club also advised hikers and passed out flyers to those that wanted them regarding what we are doing at Table Rock. I have posted pictures, invoices and checks for the activity to date.

We are setting up a website for people to donate funds to the project and that website will be placed on a sign at the bottom of the main trail to the top of Table Rock. We are soliciting funds from local businesses and have already received a donation of $1000 from Idaho Central Credit Union. We anticipate that we will have sufficient funds to start construction of the benches by the middle of June. This will keep us on our timeline to install the benches sometime in October, 2015.

We are still waiting for the Idaho Historical Society to give us the verbiage for the four signs that have to be posted. Once we have that, we will be able to get pricing for creation and installation of the signs.

The only major issue to be resolved is how to dispose of the cement bench.

Approximately $6100 has been donated so far. An MOU has been executed with the Idaho Historical Society. Pricing for the benches has been obtained. We are waiting for the IHS to develop the interpretive signs. We believe the project should be completed in September, 2015.

The receipts are a little confusing: there are duplicates of Sector 17 invoices for $1000, for Great Scot #264 for $825 and for Great Scot #347 for $1,216.69. There are no invoices for Great Scot for $4,448.19 or for either of the Guho Corp amounts. There are only 2 checks for a total of $1,825 uploaded to indicate that invoices have been paid. I've returned your project to paid status so you can resolve these issues. Thanks!
