Project Description

Country: Ghana

Location: Accra

Total Budget: $4,000

Areas of Focus: Water and sanitation, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Landscaping and retaining wall for childrens home to ease flooding and help sanitation in Accra, Ghana.

A local group from here in Idaho built and funded a childrens home and school in Accra, Ghana. The charity has used all the available funds to build the home and didn't have any left for landscaping around the building. Because of this there is flooding and sanition problems. By planting some grass and adding a retaining wall this will alleviate the flooding and allow the children a cleaner, safer and more sanitary place to sleep and live at. The project was set to start at the end of September but do to the Ebola scare we have moved the project to February. The project should take about 2 weeks to complete. We have a group of about 15 local Idaho residents going to help including my wife. This a project that our club is very excited about.

Is your Ghana grant project completed? Your application indicated it was to be done in February 2015. We need your final report (or a progress report if there's been a delay). Please write your report using the form located in the grants fold at www.rotary5400.org and upload it to this site along with all receipts documenting the purchase of materials and copies of cancelled checks to project partners. Call Cari Kaster at 539-1519 or Marianne Barker at 308-5617 if you have questions or need assistance.

Mike - I've reverted your grant to "paid" status in order for you to address some things in your reporting: 1. please use the report form provided on the matching grants website and resubmit; 2. Rotarian involvement is a requirement of Rotary Foundation grants. Please revise your answer to that question, even if it was simply raising money for the project; 3. Please upload a copy of the check your club wrote to the cooperating organization to show the transfer of funds from your club to it for use on this project; 4. Since you have no receipts, please have the cooperating organization prepare an affadavit attesting that expenses were as listed on your spreadsheet. I think Scott Hansen may be able to help you with this. Call me at (208) 308-5617 if you have questions.

Scott - Thank you for taking on the task of helping us get this grant closed. There's one issue on your report: expenses of $14,513 are reported with revenue sources of only $4,000. The expenses and revenue need to match. I'm assuming that GMAD paid the balance. The easiest way to fix this is to revise your report to show a revenue contribution of $10,513 from them to total $14,513, thus balancing against the expenses. Delete your current report, upload the new one, then click "reported" on the administrative side of the description tab.
