Project Description

Country: USA

Location: United States

Total Budget: $1,000

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Health: General

Summary: A recreation/educational scholarship for lessons and healthy snacks for kids w/ physical disabilities.

AWESOME(Adaptive Wilderness Sports of McCall) provides recreational experiences to kids/adults with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. It was developed in 2002 to serve the rural communities of Valley & Adams County, Idaho where programs were lacking. Through sports, people with disabilities gain abilities that increase self-confidence, independence and mobility. This in turn promotes an active lifestyle and social development and increases prospects for employment. Last year many scholarship requests were received from local parents unable to afford the total cost. Over 55% of the lessons came from partial or full scholarships. The need is great. This project will assist local individuals with scholarship assistance to participate in winter ski activities and summer sports. Brundage Mtn. partners (active rotarian) with AWESOME. Also, AWESOME operates with many volunteers, some who are Rotarians. The winter project begins in January 2015 ending in February with summer programs starting July 2015. $500 covers 10 lessons and healthy snacks. The McCall Rotary Club would like to fund 2 scholarships. For pictures and information on what has been done recently go to www.awesomeidaho.org/.

check #1035 was a re-issue of check number 1028. Original check issued by district 1028 was not received by club. District re-issued check #1035 and was cashed by club back in December. Club indicated they would destroy previously issued check if located.
