Project Description

Country: USA

Location: La Mesa California

Total Budget: $5,400

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Volunteer Services

Summary: 90 bicycles for 3rd graders for participating in an essay contest.

We need to raise $5600 dollars to buy bicycles for 3rd graders. This is for third graders in a Title 1 school. The school is located in the La mesa Spring Valley School District, and our Rotary club is in La Mesa. The bikes and helmets together will cost $60 each. We will be purchasing 90 bicycles. The 3rd graders will be writing an essay in which they will compete to win a new bicycle and helmet. Unbeknownst to them, every third grader who writes an essay will win a bike and a helmet.

We will need four Rotarians and a moving van to pick up the bikes in Chula Vista. We will deliver them to the school. They will store them until we assemble them at later date, it will take 10 Rotarians to assemble. The La Mesa Rotary Club will receive recognition for sponsoring the event. We can have as many Rotarians help with the event as needed. Thank you notes from the students will be sent to the Rotarians. The website for the bicycles is bikesforkidsfoundation.org.
