Alta Loma School is a School-Wide Title One School, with 69% of students receiving free or reduced-cost lunches. Less than half of its students have computers at home.
The school computer lab is aging, has many nonfunctional stations, and is constantly booked. The school needs to update computer equipment in the labs, and has asked for our help.
In addition, Alta Loma has a desperate need for Document cameras in several classrooms.
The project funds will be used to acquire two computer workstations and six document cameras. The computers will allow students to do research, school lessons, to learn life skills, and to use specialized software for individualized learning and for building a portfolio of computer experiences. Document cameras are an essential tool for classroom learning.
Rotarians will have an opportunity, after the new equipment is installed, to see them demonstrated. A news release will also be issued to the local news media, hopefully resulting in a photo opportunity. Small stickers/decals will be placed on the workstations stating that they were provided by Peoria North Rotary Club.
This project will be complete prior to Jan 31, 2015.
Our club plans to submit two grant applications for the 2014-15 Rotary year, and this application is our first priority if both cannot be funded. Thanks.
