Project Description Country: USA Location: Naval Base San Diego Total Budget: $1,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: Newly chartered Rotary Club of Naval Base San Diego club members will read children's books purchased through Rolling Readers and donate them thereafter at selected elementary school(s) outside the Navy base. Students up to third grade will benefit. The principal at King Chavez school, a Title One school, indicated her staff wants to focus on literacy to bring the children beyond technology. We will launch reading to the children as soon as we obtain the books from Rolling Readers and continue reading and providing books until they are gone (prior to mid-March 2012). The project funds will be used to purchase age-appropriate children's books, bookplates, and a rubber stamp and ink pad to use on the bookplates.
