Summary: Synthetic Playground Turf installation at Sunrisers South Davis Park
Fairbanks Sunrisers Rotary Club has been working on a Handicap Accessible Playground as part of a Community Park Improvement Project. In 2014-15 the club purchased a pavilion and six playground pieces for installation this spring 2015.
The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) requires safety material be placed beneath certain playground pieces where there is potential for injury should a child fall from the equipment. The funds requested in this District Designated grant will be used to purchase of the approved material, Synthetic Playground Turf, which has been selected to meet ADA requirements.
Club members will be involved in fundraising to raise the matching funds, and will be involved in the installation process once the material is purchased. We anticipate 3,000 Sq. Ft. of material will be needed to cover the required area where the playground pieces are installed. Up to 20 club members will assist over two days at the time of installation to haul, measure and layout, cut and install then clean-up after installation.

The next steps for this project can now be taken, as our partner, Alaska Children and Adults, received the Tier 1 grant for $25,000 from the Rasmuson Foundation. Combined with our District 5010 Grant of $5,000, matching funds of $5,000 from our club, and a generous In-Kind donation of $10,000 in materials, the final materials to complete this phase of the project are ordered. We are working on shipping options that will get the materials delivered in Fairbanks this spring, target date of Mid-May 2016. Once materials are delivered, a revised work plan, with target dates for installation of the playground foundation materials. Johnson River Enterprises is offering in-kind help again with site preparation. Club members and other volunteers will be involved in all remaining work to be done.
