it is apparent that at both McKinley and Logan Elementary Schools there are big holes in what their libraries can offer children. They have not received money to update their collections for three years. Specifically, they haven't been able to add award winning books (Caldecott, Geisel, Newbery etc. books. There are books in the annual CA collection that they haven't been able to buy either.
Secondly, there are books from which anthology selections are made. Having these books would expand and enrich the curriculum.
Finally, woefully absent from both libraries are easy-to-read chapter books with Hispanic themes or written by Hispanic authors. Gary Soto, one of CA poet laureates and author of many books comes to mind.
