The Rotary Clubs of Vista and Camp Pendleton together with the UCSD Flying Samaritans have partnered to provide underserved populations in Ensenada Mexico with free health services via a health clinic for disease prevention and treatment. As necessary, the clinic provides medicine and dentistry (when a dentist is available). The clinic is located in Chapultepec (near Ensenada). Services are provided without charge to patients.
In the past few years the partnership (the Vista Club) has re-furbished a building so that it could be used as a clinic. It provided fans, motors, dental facilities and miscellaneous items. In addition, it supplied financing for electrical and plumbing services to equip the office. The Flying Samaritans operate in Mexico at the invitation of the Mexican government specifically the DIF (the government office for the development of the family). The clinic is located in a community center near a park and a police station for security.
Recently, mildew has been noticed around the interior walls of the clinic. Working with DIF contractors and inspectors long standing roof leaks and wood rot has been uncovered. The contractors and healthcare professionals are recommending prompt repairs because of health issues related to mildew but also because of approaching winter rains. DIF is willing to provide most of the labor. Total cost of the project is $3,600.
