Project Description Country: USA Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Total Budget: $2,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: General Summary: Twelve hand-held computing tablets for children at the Southside Youth Senter in Wichita Falls, Texas. The Southside Youth Senter would like to purchase twelve hand-held computing tablets such as the Kindle HD Fire for Kids. Over the course of the past year, the Southside Youth Senter has taken on an all new educational focus. In October, SYS completed its Khan Academy Learning Centers Project. This project provided a state-of-the-art computer lab and an incredible learning center (theater of sorts). Khan Academy has quickly become the centerpiece of Southside's After-School Program. SYS is extremely proud of the fact that it's benefiting children in a far more meaningful way. SYS quickly discovered that it can expand (double) its learning programs by providing a dozen hand-held computing tablets. These tablets would be dedicated to reading and reading skills. The Southside Youth Senter wishes to have all twelve hand-held computing tablets procured, configured and ready to go by June 1, 2015 for its Summer Program.
