Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Howard-Greeley Co., NE

Total Budget: $1,250

Area of Focus: Maternal and child health

Activity Type: Food/Agriculture: General

Summary: Provide better food nutrition for food pantry users.

This project is the St. Paul Rotary Club's first priority for funding.

For the past 5 years, the St. Paul Rotary Club, in conjunction with other local service organizations and churches, has prepared and served 2 of the Lunch Bunch meals each year. Approximately 40 hours of volunteer time and $600 of expense has been donated annually to this special food pantry program and will continue this year. It was through this program that Rotarians became aware of the effect of poverty on good nutrition.

Many food pantry users need more nutritious foods to have a healthy diet. They can not afford fruits, vegetables, lean meats and fish needed for good nutrition. This project would provide resources to the food pantry for more nutritious food for its clients, through both individual orders at the food pantry and through the Lunch Bunch summer lunch program.
