The North Platte Noon Rotary has for the last two years sponsored and presented Josh the Otter to the local kindergarten classes. The Josh the Otter program is a water safety and drowning prevention program promoted by the Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation (www.joshuamemorial.org). According to the CDC drowning is the #1 cause of accidental death among 1 to 4 year olds. This program is a fun and interactive way to engage these young people about water safety. The members of our Rotary club are the people that doing the educatin and wearing the otter suit.
We are requesting funds to purchase our own Josh the Otter suit. Having this suit would help reduce the ongoing costs of the program as well as allow Josh to make appearances throughout the year and not just in the spring when we do the education programs. The cost of the suit is $1,900. Additionally, the clubs commitment to the program is the approximate $1,600 per year for the packets and coloring books for the kids.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
I received the notice that the District can only fund $1000. Please revise the club contribution amount to $2500 and leave the total budget at $3500.
