We identified the need to be that Harvesting International (HI) continually needs products to improve the diets of those it serves. The completed first phase of the Mansfield Community Garden will allow HI to provide fresh produce and vegetables to the needy of Mansfield Texas. Many of these needy residents reside close by within a ten home Habitat for Humanity community which the Rotary Club of Mansfield provided volunteer construction time on each of the ten structures.
Members of our Club and their families constructed thirteen 9' X 12' Garden Plots with irrigation. HI will then assign plots to families who are entitled to their services. These families will grow their own food for consumption while giving HI 40% of their harvest to "pay" for the use of the Garden Plots.
In addition to construction of phase two and fencing, our Clubs future role will be limited to maintaining the grounds and Garden Boxes.
The requested Grant will offset Club funding for materials used for building the thirteen Plots and the surrounding walkways.
Thank you for your consideration.
