Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development
Activity Type:
Community Development: General
Summary: Bricks for a Rotary Rest Park on the Greenbelt, a major pathway along the Boise River and a major community asset.
This project will provide a Rotary Rest Park on the last stretch of the Greenbelt, a non-motorized pathway that follows the Boise River. The project is being completed through a partnership between Rotary, the Idaho Department of Transportation, and the City of Boise.
The Greenbelt is a major community asset in the greater Treasure Valley. It is intended to connect Eagle, Garden City and Boise Cities; extending beyond the cities to Luck Peak Reservoir Dam and Park. The Greenbelt pathway is used for environmental and water education; health and exercise; and as an alternate route for foot, bike and wheelchair transportation that is away from major highways and intersections.
The Greenbelt is used by people across District 5400, local residence and visitors alike. It supports education, walking, running, biking, fishing, and more. When completed the Greenbelt will connect more than 6 major parks, Boise Watershed, multiple education facilities, and many community spaces.
The need for the Rotary Rest Park is significant. The last section of the Greenbelt to be completed, is on the edge of downtown, surrounded by commercial businesses, at a significant intersection of two highways (Boise Connector and Chinden). Because this section of the Greenbelt is not yet completed/connected, users have to exit the Greenbelt at this location, navigate through the commercial area, then re-enter the Greenbelt pathway on the other side, crossing a multiple-lane highway. This particular project will provide paver bricks for the Rotary Rest Area at the point where the Greenbelt is completed and connected. This will be a place to rest along this new section of Greenbelt that is a safe distance away from the traffic of the intersection and the commercial businesses in the area.
The Rotary Rest Park, when completed, will have Rotary recognition and give the users a peaceful, safe place to rest as the navigate the many miles of Greenbelt pathway.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
This project will replace 7 park signs, one steel/powder coated picnic table with four seats, and one trash bin at the River Pointe Park on the Boise River Greenbelt.

Janice - Couple of things: Have the brick pavers been installed? Until then, the project isn't completed. Also, when writing a final report the revenue column must match the expense column. Your report will need to be rewritten eliminating "in-kind" volunteer hours etc. I've returned the project to paid status awaiting your response. Please call me to discuss: 208 308-5617

This project is still ongoing and very active. Boise Metro Rotary is actively working with the City of Boise Parks department through each phase of the project and implementation. This project has not been dropped, yet is a multi-phase project.

This project is to replace 6 park signs, one steel/powder coated picnic table with four seats, and one trash bin at the River Pointe Park on the Boise River Greenbelt. The 25 miles of Greenbelt is accessible to the public, provides scenic views, wildlife habitat, serves innumerable cyclists, walkers, skaters, birders, runners and relaxers from all walks of life. It serves as an alternative transportation route for commuters to work and shopping. River Pointe Park was originally developed by Rotarians and has been maintained by Rotarians annually since it was developed. In addition to being weekly users of the Greenbelt, Club members from Boise Metro Rotarians maintain benches, rest stops, shelters along the Greenbelt annually. This project will be completed in July 2017.

I have audited this project. On your Final Report, I am requiring that the List of sources and expenditures must equal $6,400. I am requiring you to remove the $4,800 for volunteer hours and city resources of $14,400. In the volunteer text you may add the number of hours if you wish to do. Also, you did not select Report when you submitted your Final Report. When you correct your Final Report, you need to make sure to show the project Reported. Then I will approve your Final Report because the Final Report was submitted by the May 15th deadline.
