Joel's Place is a youth center, providing a safe place for teenagers to gather and enjoy themselves with supervision and mentoring. It includes an indoor skate park, concert venue, kitchen/cafe, ride shop, art and music rooms, community garden, outdoor volleyball and basketball courts, and outdoor snowboard park. Fairbanks has many homeless teenagers living in poverty. The goal is to provide a safe place for these teens and others. Joel's Place has been in operation for 15 years and has served over 1,000 teenagers. Normally a small admission fees is required, but the sponsorships allow Joel's Place to provide free admissions, encouraging more youth to take advantage of the safety and warmth it provides. A $2,500 sponsorship pays for approximately 360 skating sessions. Joel's Place also provides Rotarians an opportunity to assist with instructing in bike maintenance and gardening or assisting on the security team.
