Our Vocational Day Symposium offers students a chance to gain knowledge and insight into how to make one of the most important decisions of their life. Through messages of hope and inspiration, they were not told "what" to choose as a vocation, but they were shown through real life experiences "how" to choose their vocation.—how to follow their passion. They were shown how their choices and attitude determine their destiny, not their circumstances. The day gave the students a chance to discuss the "real world" with Rotarians and successful entrepreneurs.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
Vocational Day 2015 is a morning program designed for high school juniors and seniors where they hear from prominent leaders in the community about their careers and leadership. This year we held the morning at the Capistrano Valley District office board room. This was the first time many of these students had ever seen the district office that oversees their schools! We had a warm welcome from our Rotary President who explained what Rotary is and how they could get involved. The Superintendent also spoke briefly followed by three incredible speakers. The students asked great questions, participated in raffles during the breaks and were treated to a delicious breakfast prepared by the schools own Culinary Arts Program! It was a really great experience for students in the culinary program to have this opportunity as many of them are looking for this as a career path!
We moved the program to from the Laguna Cliffs Hotel to the School District board room so we could accommodate more students. We arranged for 1 busloads of students from 4 different High Schools. In the past we have only served 2 schools.
We had the High School Culinary institute prepare breakfast and cater the event. Providing vocational experience to about 12 additional students.
There were approximately 80 attendees which included students, Rotary Members, teachers and special guests. Plus there were approximately 12 students from the High School Culinary Arts Department that catered the event.
