Summary: Two (2) RYLA scholarships to be awarded to students of Junipero Serra HS, San Diego, CA


RYLA Project: A Scholarship project to help develop leadership skills as well as global and community awareness in future leaders. The Rotary Club of Naval Base San Diego will provide two (2) RYLA Camp Scholarships to Junipero Serra High School in San Diego. RYLA attendees will experience learning situations which will help their own unique strengths and leadership abilities. Students wishing to apply for these scholarships will complete an application and a written essay on leadership. A committee of 2-3 Rotarians will then review and interview the applicants and choose the awardees. The timeline for this project is April 15-17, 2016


Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

This project is on track.

Six Serra High School candidates were interviewed. Four were selected, two alternates. One alternate was picked up by Rotary Club of Rancho Santa Fe. One primary had to drop out, so the second alternate will be taking that position. Total heading up to RYLA is 5 of the 6 selected.

District Grant application P-994 was approved by the D5340 Rotary Foundation Committee at its August 2015 meeting. The Committee approved a match of $250. in DDF to match Club funds for this project. Checks will be issued after the grant is fully signed by the designated Club officers.
