Project Description Country: USA Location: Mineral Wells, TX Total Budget: $3,000 Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Health: General Summary: Mineral Wells Backpack Buddies Mineral Wells started in 2010 by the First United Methodist Church and is focused on eliminating childhood hunger in our community. The program feeds 185 to 190 children per week at 5 different schools (includes three elementary schools, the Junior High and High Schools). The program is completely supported by the community. The average cost per child for the school year is $108. The program begins after the first week of school when the teachers and counselors have identified at-risk children. Back Pack Buddies provides children from food-insecure homes with healthy weekend meals during the school year. Our club members would participate in the preparation of the back packs on a rotating basis. The club packed over 300 bags before they ran out of supplies. 2-Oct-15 System Entry Project approved by the District Approval Committee. 16-Jan-16 by Sharron Miles Funds have not been 24-Apr-16 System Entry Check for DDF payment issued by Foundation Treasurer. 2-Jun-16 by Mary Braddock When our club started this project the Backpack Buddies program was feeding about 190 students. At the end of the school year the program had grown and is now serving 325 meals weekly. 3-Jun-16 System Entry Project has been implemented and final report uploaded. 3-Jun-16 System Entry Final report approved by the District Approval Committee.
