Project Title: Eagle Scout Scholarship


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

Anchorage Midtown Rotary Club awarded two scholarship of $750.00 each to a graduate from Anchorage High Schools who earned the Eagle Scout rank during the 2021-2022 school year.

Anchorage Midtown Rotary Club wants to continue awarding at least two scholarships in 2023-2024. The club believes these awards recognize and affirm worthy youth by providing funds to help the financial pressures of advanced education or training. Recipients submit an application together with a 750-1000 words essay on "The Rotary Four Way Test and Its Relationship to the Scout Law." They also demostrated they could effectively plan, lead, and complete a major project for the benefit of the community.

Recipients are selected by a panel of club members based on the application and the content of the essay.

A Club Officer signs all checks for disbursement of grant funds. A separate club member who is in charge of the grant, must sign / approve the voucher authorizing disbursement of funds from the grant. The grant reporting will be done by another Club member who neither authorized disbursement or signed checks disbursing grant funds. A separate ledger will be kept for the District Grant.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Two High School graduates Eagle Scouts benefited directly from the scholarship to continue higher education. The club believes these scholarships motivate the recipients to pursue higher educational goals. This meets the Rotary area of focus on basic education and literacy.

The name of the students were: David Murray and Tadeyysz Rzuszut

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 8 members of the Anchorage Midtown Rotary

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

The Annchorage Midtown Rotary administered the 5010 District Grant. Selections were made by the club's scholarship committee and approved by the members.

A representative of the Anchorage Midtown Rotary personally delivered the scholarship certificates and checks.

Recipients were also recognized at meetings of the club in July and August 2022
