District Grant Final Report

District 5010

2022-23

Rotary Club: Kenai

Project Title: Education Scholarship

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

We have awarded two students scholarships to pursue their vocational education. Tre and Corbin are both seniors from Nikiski High School and are each staying on the Kenai Peninsula for their vocational education. Tre will be attending AVTEC to obtain a plumbing certificate and Corbin will attend Alaska Driving Academy to get his CDL. Both students were awarded these scholarships on their Awards Night at the high school and the money was sent directly to each school.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 2

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Each of the students showed that they will pursue further education in a vocational school, both on the Kenai Peninsula. So this grant not only supports each student in his career journey, but assists the schools as well. Each of the students has already been in touch with members of the club and have even joined us for service projects. These scholarships will help these young men become professionals that will affect our area of the state and will introduce them to the world of Rotary.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 6

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Five Kenai Club Rotarians read through the scholarship applications we received and chose our top students to interview. Three Rotarians interviewed the students and came to a decision on who to award the scholarships to. One Rotarian went to the awards night to give the students their certificate.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?
