District Grant Final Report

District 5010

2022-23

Rotary Club: Kodiak

Project Title: Youth/Adult Scholarships

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

This project is an annual project sponsored by the Kodiak Rotary Club. Annually, we grant scholarships to graduating high school seniors and scholarships to continuing, post secondary students. The number and amount of the scholarships awarded is dependent on available funds. This year with financial assistance from the District, the Kodiak Rotary Club awarded six $1500. scholarships to Kodiak residents. Three scholarships were for graduating high school seniors and three were for continuing education students.

2. How many people benefited from this project? Six students and their families benefited directly. Indirectly, the entire community benefited as more of our residents were able to participate in post-secondary educational opportunities.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The beneficiaries were six individual students, each of whom received a scholarship of $1500. Each of these students was better able to participate in post-secondary educational opportunities because of the scholarship they received from the Kodiak Rotary Club, with District 5010 support. The humanitarian need that was met was furthering education within our community.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 10 Rotarians participated in different aspects of the project.

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

One Rotarian managed the project, while two Rotarians manage the Kodiak Rotary Scholarship Fund.

Five Rotarians severed on the scholarship review committee, and two Rotarians work for cooperating organizations and promoted and supported the project.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

The two cooperating organizations were: the Kodiak Island Borough School District and Kodiak College (UAA). Both organizations provided students with scholarship applications, accepted completed scholarship applications and forward the applications to the project coordinator who provided the applications to the review committee.
