District Grant Final Report

District 5340

2022-23

Rotary Club: La Jolla Golden Triangle

Project Title: Technology At Your Fingertips

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

A junior high school in an underserved community - Escuela Secundaria Num. 11 "Abelardo L. Rodriguez" - was the recipient of 40 computers and 1 laser printer. The school prepared the computer lab and Rotarians from Club Rotario Tijuana Agua Caliente painted the computer lab prior to the computers being installed. The inauguration took place at the school on February 11, 2023. The school had a presentation, a ribbon cutting ceremony, and we all socialized after same. Rotarians, school faculty, students, and parents were all in attendance.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 550 students will benefit from this lab each year.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Beneficiaries include students and teachers. Most of the students do not have access to computers at home and teachers are required to teach computer classes without computers. The humanitarian need that was met is access to computer education. This will provide opportunities for students that they did not previously have.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 16 Rotarians from Club Rotario Tijuana Agua Caliente and 2 Rotarians from La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club participated. 6 additional members from the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club participated in the inauguration.

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Rotarians from Club Tijuana Agua Caliente inspected the schools to confirm they were ready to receive the computers and printer. They also painted the classroom prior to installing the computers. Rotarians from both clubs were in regular communication to submit the District Grant, gather the required documents

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?
