Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

District Grant #4459 funded several Youth Services programs in the District including:

LEAD--8th grade leadership development program

Model UN--Simulation of actual UN resolutions and actions on them

RYLA-Rotary Leadership camp for high school juniors (11th grade) who have demonstrated leadership potential in their school & community

City Heights Rotaract--Service club for young professional (18--30+) who are actively making a difference in their community

2. How many people benefited from this project? 100 youth

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The beneficiaries of youth services programs are vast as these young people continue to show leadership and make a difference in their community.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 200

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Rotarians are the key players in putting these Rotary Youth programs together and making them work. They serve as facilitators for LEAD & RYLA camps; organizers of the Model UN program; and Advisors to the Rotaract Club.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

Rotary Club of Mallorca sponsored the Rotary Youth Exchange program for youths 18-14 to travel to Mallorca for two weeks to learn more about Father Junipero Serra, founder of the California (Baja & Alta) missions who was from the Spanish island of Mallorca. Two members of the City Heights Rotaract Club were selected to participate in the RYE in Mallorca in 2023.
