Rotary Club: North County San Diego-Route 78 Project Title: Scholarships for Latina teens 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Two MANA de North County 12th grade mentees were awarded college scholarships with checks written directly to their universities 2. How many people benefited from this project? 2 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The mentees who received the scholarships were: Jaly Reyes, who is a Latina and a first generation college student from a low-income family and she will be attending Cal State LA with the goal of becoming a teacher. Jaly has been in the MANA mentoring program since 9th grade. The other was Serina Cervantes, also a Latina and a first generation college student from a low-income family. She will be attending CSUSM. She has been in the MANA mentoring program since the beginning of 10th grade 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 1 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. I am Corie De Anda, the Route 78 Rotary Club President and also the Hermanitas Director for MANA de North County. I mentored these girls, among many others in schools across north county. MANA is the name of the nonprofit (headquartered in D.C.) and Hermanitas is the name of the nationwide mentoring program. MANA de North County is the local chapter of MANA 6.
