Rotary Club: North County San Diego-Route 78 Project Title: College Visits for Latino boys 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The project was to provide funding to the nonprofit organization Encuentros so they could provide bussing for Latino boys to visit colleges. They hosted a conference for middle school boys on Saturday April 22 at MiraCosta College. The buses were used to pick up students from their schools and take them to MCC and back. They will again us buses to take Latino high school students to visit other colleges campuses after school is out in June. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 100 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The beneficiaries were middle school boys (and a few girls) who got to participate in a powerful all-day conference with motivational speakers, counselors, and career speakers to empower the boys to plan to attend college and study a career. So, the focus was on education. They also fed the students. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 1 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. The Rotarian is an active member of Encuentros, so he assisted with the planning and execution of the conference. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Encuentros is a local nonprofit organization and their members organized the April 22 conference for the students in middle and high schools and provided the busing to MiraCosta College. 7. Income
