Rotary Club: Solana Beach Project Title: ECOLIFE Aquaponics III 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? With funding from the Solana Beach ECO-Rotary, ECOLIFE donated 5 ECO-Cycle Aquaponics Kits and K-12 curricula to 5 North County classrooms. Each ECO-Cycle teaches students about the complex interactions occurring in nature while also serving as a daily reminder of the importance of sustainable food systems. 2. How many people benefited from this project? Most ECO-Cycles served between 30-150 students in their first year of use. However, each ECO-Cycle Aquaponics Kit offers a 5-7 year lifespan, ensuring that the benefits mentioned above will be experienced by a new cohort of students year after year. We estimate that in the first year of this program 150-750 students will used ECO-Cycles funded by The Solana Beach ECO Rotary. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The funding from Solana Beach ECO Rotary served 4 separate classrooms in multiple schools, providing important project-based learning opportunities to a wide group of students. All schools receiving ECO-Cycles as a part of this donation were located in North County, and ECOLIFE prioritized Title 1 institutions. ECO-Cycle Aquaponics Kit helped students connect scientific concepts to real-world applications beyond the classroom while bridging science education with STEM-based careers and Eco-stewardship. Through daily, hands-on interaction, students of all ages and backgrounds formulated new ideas while developing critical thinking and collaboration skills. (This program is unique in that it allows for greater equity across our local school districts.) 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? None 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? ECOLIFE frequently works with local school districts such as Escondido Union and Escondido Union High School Districts. These strategic partnerships allow for us to more closely observe students' and teachers' interactions with the ECO-Cycles. 7. Income
