Rotary Club: North County San Diego-Route 78 Project Title: Hope for Mtshabezi Clinic 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Jona Clinic has been in operation since January 23, 2021. It serves a population of more than 7,000 local villagers plus other people who come from distant villages. The challenge is that most of the villagers do not have enough funds to pay for their consultation fee of $6.00 ( six) USD plus pay for medications. The grant helped supplement funds to pay for much needed medications at the clinic. You will note that we do a lot of out reaches out of the clinic as well. Most of the NGOs focus on women and children but rarely on the elderly. We focus on our elderly as well. There are less pictures of the clinic patients because our policy discourages taking pictures of patients in the exam rooms. Privacy and confidentiality concerns. But most of the medication is dispensed at the clinic of course. 2. How many people benefited from this project? More than 200 and they still benefit as the project is on going. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The beneficiaries are the medically underserved and low income villagers of Matebeleland South Province. Because of the broken health care system in Zimbabwe, Jona Clinic has helped improve people's health. While the major goal of the clinic is prevention people still get sick and need medications. Jona clinic is one of the very few clinics that has all the needed pills for different ailments, High blood pressure, Diabetes. Knee and back problems. Pneumonias, gastro intestinal problems, coughs. worm infestations etc. Jona Clinic was also part of the Covid and Polio Vaccine campaigns that got all the kids in the villages immunized for Polio and people over 12 years received Covid Vaccines. The humanitarian need met is that people get their goof health back and are able to then provide for their children and families. An unhealthy community is a "dead" community. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? Jona Clinic is 103 km from Bulawayo where most Rotary Clubs are located. Lindani Sibanda is the member of Rotary Club of Bulawayo South and she is the only member currently participating the project. Two other Rotarians visited the clinic but because of distance and poorly maintained roads, most Rotarians have been unable to participate though they recognize the work being done by their fellow Rotarian. 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Zimbabwe's economic situation makes it very difficult for fellow Rotarians to participate in all suggested projects as there are many projects that demand the Rotary attention especially those within the 100km radius from Bulawayo 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Jona Clinic works closely with Zimbabwe Ministry of Health and Child Care. They provide the clinic with Personal Protective Equipment. They also provide all Public Health related medications like TB medications, HIV medications and all vaccines. They also distribute nutrition supplements for underweight children. Near- bye churches, the Brethren In Christ Church and the Baptist Church also allow the staff to occasionally educate their congregation on disease prevention.. Mayezane school partners with Jona Clinic by bringing some students to the clinic for nutrition education in the nutrition garden. 7. Income
