Project Description Region: Asia Country: India Location: Jammu & Kashmir Total Budget: $45,300 Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Maternal and child health View Online Proposal Form Although most babies can hear normally, 1 to 3 of every 1,000 babies are born with some degree of hearing loss. And few develop hearing loss after birth. Average age by which hearing loss is detected in India is 3-4 years by that time damage to the speech development is tremendous.Without new born hearing screening, it is difficult to detect hearing loss in the first months and years of child's life. About half of the children with hearing loss have no risk factors for it. Children with hearing loss don't perceive auditory stimuli to a sufficient extent or fail to respond to them at all.
