The cooperative named "S.S.Hıdırlık Tarımsal Kalkınma" whose members are only women was established in Seferihisar, İzmir in 2010. The cooperative's main target is to gain home-based working women to production process and enlarge their areas of work within the agricultural values across the region. Agricultural cooperatives hold much potential to enable economically weak farmers to increase their collective bargaining power and individual capacities and so enhance their incomes. They provide input services, create market opportunities, and help sell their members' products.
Accordingly, the Cooperative started e-trading. They are selling the products cultivated by the members of the Cooperative via the website, namely, www. seferipazar. com. Besides, in order to support producers in the village in Seferihisar, the Cooperative is selling the organic vegetables and fruits cultivated by the villagers.
At the same time, they would like to sell dried seasonal fruits and vegetables in order to increase the variety of products and for long time protection. Drying process involves the removal of moisture from agricultural produce so as to provide a product that can be safely stored for a longer period of time. Drying is an excellent way to preserve food and solar food dryers are appropriate food preservation technology for sustainable development. The solar drying system utilizes solar energy to heat up air and to dry any food substance which is not only beneficial to reduce wastage and help in preservation of agricultural produce, but also makes transportation of such dried produce easier and promotes the health and welfare of the people.
That's the reason why, we'd like to support the Cooperative by giving them air heater solar collectors as a grant.
Three units of solar dryer system will be purchased via our grant project. The manufacturing and delivery of the units with secured written agreements will take about one month. Governor of Seferihisar Municipality disclosed his active contribution to this project and rotarians from our Club will make visits to the community to observe the activities.
