Three fishermen villages within the area of Wadi El Gemal National Park South Red Sea, Egypt. Project objective is developing the villages that lacks basic services necessary for decent human life such as (Electricity, Clean water,Health services,educational services,Creating job opportunities)
Three fishermen villages selected for a 3 Years Project duration
1.Hamata, which is relatively developed (it has electricity and a diving Center (2000 inhabitants)
2. Abo Ghosoon (1500 inhabitants)
3. Qolaan (60 inhabitants)
During 2014-2015 RC EL-Obour started working where the following achievements have been accomplished;
- Providing four individual houses outside the settlements with solar energy
- Building and equipping an illiteracy class in Qolaan (partnering with a specialized NGO to provide teachers)
- Providing Qolaan fishermen with 2 small boats
- Providing Qolaan fishermen with 2 freezers and building a room for them
- Renew the sewage system in Abo Ghsoon
- Providing Qolaan with a gasoline tank to operate electricity generator
- Providing school children with clothes, toys and school books
- Arranging a medical convoy to the clinic in Hamata (serves 2 more villages)
- Providing Hamata clinic with medicine and some necessary equipment
Long Term projects to be implemented
The second phase consist of the major long term basic needs for the area. This plan has been agreed upon with Governor of Red Sea area.
- Water desalination systems operated by solar energy (There are 30 old wells that can be used)
- Developing sewage system in Hamata
- Building and insulating roofs for houses in all villages
- Substitute Qolaan wooden huts with better wooden houses equipped with safer energy and water tanks
- Install more solar units to get rid gradually of gasoline generators to help keep the environment clean
- Continuous medical convoys to the area
- Substitute poor wooden cottages gradually with bricks houses outside the protected area
- Continue with eliminating illiteracy in the region
- Train fishermen on using more advanced methods
- Providing fishermen with more fridge and boats
