Rotary Club of Thane Midtown is applying for Global Grant project to implement e-learning modules for school children in identified schools of Murbad & Shahapur Taluka of Thane district, Maharashtra, India. In majority parts of India still the traditional teaching techniques prevail which are mostly based on use of chalk and black board. In this modern technology world, we believe that technology will play a vital role in the field of education. In India we have yet to go a long way to achieve 100% Literacy rate. Various experiments have suggested that new modern ways of teaching with the help of Technology is much more helpful than traditional ways of teaching as stated above.
When something is taught with the help of audio-visual aids to the students give far better results in terms of Learning, Grasping etc. At the same time Digital ways of teaching attracts students in large numbers and due to which attendance in the schools automatically gets increased. So we can say it is a most effective way of teaching to students. Students remember better when things taught to them visually rather than read through pages after pages. Teachers should spend time in training the students visually by drawing and preparing charts and diagrams to make them more understandable on the subjects. This conventional education system available today in most of the schools are more on trainer dependent and such involvement by the trainers towards the students are rare.
Our club is targeting rural areas where students have not been introduced to this modern ways of teaching. Teachers in these areas also sometimes fail to understand requirements of students. So we believe that these E-Learning modules will not only be helpful to students but teachers also may learn new methods of teaching by those modules.
Proposed Rotary e-learning Program (RELP) project will directly benefit needy school children especially rural tribal youth in the India. It is directed towards 1 to 10 grade students where;
A. Quality education is not available
B. Qualified & trained teachers are not available
C. School dropout rate is extremely high
D. Learning outcome is very poor
E. Child labour is rampant
F. Unemployment is high there is steady migration of youth towards urban centers which have become overcrowded. As per the estimate over 100,000 tribal youth are expected to benefit
G. Poverty is unbearable
A team from our club members will visit the needy schools and verify the needs and approve the required needs and then request is forwarded to our club.
As a pilot project, our club is providing E-Learning modules to 5 different schools as identified by our club which will be purchased by approved vendor of Rotary India viz. "Tirubaa".
This project also has a training component where complete On Site training will be provided for the teachers handling of computers and digital board. The teachers will also be trained on preparing software content using the digital board and computers. Initially the teachers can train the students on the subjects using the digital Classrooms with the software content provided to them, and in later case with the adequate training given to them, they will be capable of developing their own content according to their local requirements.
