Project Description Region: Asia Country: India Location: Panvel Total Budget: $37,500 Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene Area of Focus : Water and Sanitation Panvel Taluka situated in Raigad District of State of Maharashtra India comprises of 170 villages . Each village has its own primary school run by the local Zilla Parishad. Safe Potable drinking water for these school children still remains a distant dream. We the members of Rotary Club of Panvel Central, District 3131, pledge to turn this dream into reality. We propose to donate and install Water Purifiers for each and every school in Panvel Taluka. The proposed cost incurred for each one of this water purifier which includes supply,installation and 3 year warranty is expected to be Rs 15000/- ( Rupees Fifteen Thousand only). Hence the expected total cost for this project would be to the tune of Rs 22,50,000/- ( Rupees Twenty Two Lacs Fifty thousand only) ie around $ 37500. This project has three specific components. The first phase is to source and distribute water filters to each and every school in 170 villages. The second phase is to provide training to responsible persons of the school on the proper use and care of the filtration units to ensure the units will meet their design life of 10 years or more. Finally, the third phase of the project seeks to establish a partnership between the Rotary Club of Panvel Central and local health officials to provide for follow up visits and training to insure sustainability of the project and maximum use of filters provided.
