Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: Turkey

Location: Izmir

Total Budget: $49,000

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

Izmir is one of the most crowded cities in Turkey due to the immigration from all other cities. Because of the increase in population and the prolonged life cyle, the old population and the number of bed ridden people also increases. Most of these people are poor and they don't always have health insurance by the government. They don't have the chance to be treated in the public hospitals. Even if the bedridden patients have health insurance by the Government, the hospitals can not hospitalize them for a life time. So they have to be taken care at home. But sometimes they have to take hospital care some how like dialysis ect. Ambulances and ambulifts (patient transfer vehicles) carry these patients to the hospitals for daily treatment. Ambulances are used mostly in emergency cases and in accidents. Even though they carry these patients to the hospitals for treatment, they don't wait for the patients' treatment ends. But the ambulifts carry these patients and wait for them until their daily treatment ends and take them back to their houses.

The Aim of the project:The number of the ambulifts of Health Minister remains incapable for the bedridden patients in İzmir. And the Government can not afford so many vehicles for every municipality in Turkey or even in İzmir. For this reason inline with the requirement of these vehicles we as Izmir Bostanli RC decided to support the North Hospitals Union by buying a vehicle which can carry both trolley and disabled chair. The vehicle will have two different door mechanisms for the trolley and for the disabled chair, air-condition, ambulance siren light, oxygen system, inner isolation and cowling, trolley and trolley backing board. The other equipments needed for the patient's comfort will be supplied by the Union.

Our project will start as soon as we buy the vehicle and will serve for the bedridden patient for a long time. We as the Rotarians will control how it is used.
