I am very glad to inform you that our club has track record of completing more than five matching grant in last five years.

4. Rotary Greater Computer Centre at Institute of Quality Education Rajkot Rs. 1.7 Million (30,000 US$) (USA)
5. Water sump and Drip irrigation at Jivanshala 80 km away from Rajkot Rs. 1.5 Million (28,000 US$) (USA)
6. Rotary Greater Dialysis Centre with 10 dialysis Machine at B.T. Savani Kidney Hospital worth Rs. 6.4 Million (1,00,000 US$) USA
This year we have decided to give Brachy therapy machine to Rajkot Cancer Hospital under Global grant. Cost of machine is 245,000 US$.
Our club is committed for 80,000 to 90,000 US$ contribution from our side. We expect more than 50,000 US$ from two or three international partner. Remaining will be matched by Rotary Foundation.
Out of our contribution we will need support from our district 3060 DDF also and we are sure that we will get it.
PROJECT : High Dose Brachytherapy (HDR) Machine for Rajkot Cancer Hospital
Problem Description:
Saurashtra region has big numbers of cancer patients. There are very limited options available for Cancer treatment at affordable cost with quality treatment. Modern instruments are very costly and they have to be upgraded with time without considering economic viability. Rajkot Cancer Society is running a comprehensive Cancer Centre with all facilities of Surgical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology with other supporting departments under one roof. It registers about 4700 cases every year , 1000 Operations are performed, 1100 Patients received Radiation treatment and 1500 patients are given chemotherapy.
They need one latest High Dose Rate Brachy therapy facility in their Radiation treatment department. Currently hospital has old technology "Manual after loading Brachy therapy System" which is Low dose rate brachy therapy and it takes 16-20 hours to complete one such treatment.
Objective of Project:
The overall objective behind these efforts is to help people who are suffering from cancer problem get treatment at affordable rate. Specific objective of supplying brachy therapy facility to Rajkot Cancer Society.Cost estimated around 250,000 US $. Department of Radiation oncology needs two types of Radiation equipments i.e. External beam machine and Internal Radiation therapy (Brachy therapy). Hospital has 1 External Beam Machine Linear Accelerate Rapid Arc 2. Cobalt Machine. Brachytherapy is a kind of Radiation Treatment where in Radiation Sources are kept in contact with Tumour. With present facility of Manual after loading Brachytherapy System which is Low dose rate brachy therapy has limitation to do all types of brachy treatment and it takes 16-20 hours to complete one such treatment. Latest High Dose Rate Brachytherapy is a standard for all types of brachytherapy applications. With this the same treatment which presently takes 16-20 hours can be completed in 15 minutes.
We have already visited hospital and talked with trustees of the Rajkot Cancer Hospital, one of the only Cancer hospitals of its kind in Saurashtra.We discussed current situation and requirement of such High Dose Rate Brachytherapy machine.
Reach of the Project and intended beneficiaries:
Rajkot Cancer Hospital is a non profit organization, was established in 1969 to cater largely to Cancer patients with limited economic means mainly hailing from the region of Saurashtra and Kutchh covering population of about 17 million. Hospital is attached with government benefit scheme for Low income citizens of Gujarat state, so its big advantage for poor needy patients to get treatment free of cost.
As there is no functioning brachy therapy in this area, patients need to go outside Rajkot city and charges vary from Rs. 10,000 per procedure to Rs. 25,000 in private. Hospital will be taking Rs. 10,000 for this treatment.
Sustainability of the Project:
The hospital has been fortunate to have a continuous support from all sections of the society in terms of voluntary donations and also from eminent medical fraternity who have rendered and continue to render yeoman service to cancer patients of limited economic means. Over the four decades of its functioning, hospital has developed huge infrastructure with modern instruments with expert technical staff and doctors as per AERB Guidelines for all types of cancer treatment. Hospital has already constructed room as per guideline of Atomic energy Regulatory Board(AERB) required for this facility.
The Hospital is very well managed by hon. Trustees who are leading businessman of Rajkot city; machine will be maintained as well as used round the clock for the real needy patients without commercial aspect. Hospital has promised us to maintain and run this machine through their internal sources. Hospital has good network as well as image among society and it is attracting so many donors being right place to donate.
Timeline of the Project:
After getting fund within two-three months we can order and install the machine.
