Project Description

Region: Central America

Country: Honduras

Location: Merendon Preserve

Total Budget: $198,000

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

The people of the Merendon primarily drink ground water in some form. The watershed drains in to the reservoir which feeds the city of San Pedro Sula. Many of the households use water sand filters. The objectives of this global grant are to reduce/eliminate contaminated runoff in the watershed. The Latrines, sanitation training in health and personal hygiene in the communities selected will improve their overall health.

The households within the communities of Peñitas, San Antonio, Laguna de Tembladeros ,El Gallito and Santa Elena Vieja. Out of the 400 households that are in these communities, which have an estimated total number of 2000 inhabitants, in this first stage, 24 families of each community will benefit for a total of 600 direct beneficiaries. This is a pilot project to determine results on ground water, costs, and heath.

Lima and Usula will be supervising the logistics, training in hygiene and accounting of funds.

Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
