Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: South Africa

Location: Eastern Cape

Total Budget: $30,100

Areas of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene, Basic education and literacy

Siyavuya is a school for mentally handicapped children. The existing building is a wooden structure and is in a bad state of disrepear. It is unsafe for the children. We are DESPERATELY looking for a club to patner us in this worthy cause. The school teaches basic skills to the children and doubles as a day care centre allowing the parents to leave the children safe whilst they are working. This school fulfills multiple needs in the inpovirished community. They also need a ablution block so it fulfills both water and sanitation as well as basic education and literacy. If any club is looking for a worthwhile project that will make a massive difference to this community, please contact me and I will give you more details. PP Rob Dobrowsky. Dist 9370. Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.

District 5340 approved the DDF for this project today. However, the Foundation Committee expressed concern that the grant will be to build a structure, which is against TRF Funding rules. Please make sure the application is consistent with TRF rules when it is submitted in order to maximize the likelihood that this project is approved.
