After the earthquake that affected Ecuador (2016 April 16th.) in the provinces of Manabi and Esmeraldas mainly, at the Pacific Coast in South America. The most affected areas are in towns near by the Pacific Ocean, including the rural community DON JUAN, located in JAMA county, with a population of 703 Inhabitants (163 families). Don Juan is well known because most of the inhabitants are fishermen (42 small boats for fishing).

Jama was almost completely destroyed, has to be done a lot of work in different ways like rebuilding roads, houses, schools, nurseries, church, health centers, and public services systems: potable water, sewerage, electricity, etc.

Together with the Municipality of Jama and other donators, our club members had visited the area many times and being a town of fishermen there is the necessity of create fishing facilities in which some Rotary Clubs will be involved for the developing of this project that will be named DON JUAN FRESH FISH. For this project the Municipality will select a piece of land in which the buildings needed, will be donated by persons, foundations and companies.

As Rotary Clubs we are interested in giving to DON JUAN Community a "Cold Room" in order to preserve the fish collected from the fishermen in the area and so the population will have fresh and good quality of fish every day, for selling at better prices and improve their condition. The Global Grant (GG) will be proposed to The Rotary Foundation and will be used for this Cold Room and will provide potable water, electricity, different tools, metallic tables, bath rooms, showers, lockers, basic services, special clothing, gloves and boots, in order to work in this area. Additionally, this project includes various seminars for the fish processing, business plans, health and sanitation, marketing, etc. The project could start September 2016 up to March or April 2017.

This project has been prioritized by D4400 and various Rotary Clubs from Pichincha province (Quito and Los Chillos Valley); also Manabi province clubs will be involved in designing details, coordination with the Municipality and other authorities, procurement, transportation, installations, seminars, monitoring, administration, etc.
