Installation and Maintenance of Sanitary Toilets, Drinking Water Facilities, Hand Washing Facilities in Government / Government Aided School,in the State of Odisha, India.

To provide 40 Bricks & Mortar Construction safe and hygienic biological sanitation facilities at schools especially for children in rural schools to prevent Open Defecation and drop out of girl children from schools due to lack of toilets. Also install and maintain drinking water facilities, hand washing facilities to prevent children from diseases and provide them with safe drinking water.

Approx 4,000 School children will benefit & use toilets, have safe drinking water and hand wash facilities at approx 40 rural schools.

The Project will take place in 26 Revenue Districts in the State of Odisha, India namely Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Bhawanipatna, Phulbani, Ganjam, Cuttack, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kendrapada, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Boudh.

Safe & Hygienic Sanitation, Drinking water, hand wash facilities for students going to rural schools

-20% of schools in Odisha are without toilets and 73% of schools in Odisha are without Girls Toilets.(UNICEF)

-50 to 60% of girl children do not go beyond their primary schooling and more than 50 millions become drop-outs- lack of toilets in schools being a major cause-HRD GOI.

Absence of toilet facility, Drinking Water and Hand Wash in school poses a great problem for students. They face humiliation and embarrassment due to loss of privacy while defecating in open. Open defecation also causes spread of several diseases like diarrhea, helminthes diseases, and respiratory infections among them. All this creates a negative impact on their education and they are forced to drop out. Sanitary Biological toilets converts human waste into non-toxic , non contaminating neutral water. The discharge is free from pathogenic microbes and completely environment friendly. There is no foul smell from these toilets. And very easy to use and maintain. Clean Drinking Water prevents a lot of water borne diseases. Hand Wash prevents coTraining & Advocacy is an important component of this project. The beneficiaries will be trained on Toilet Etiquette- specially for ladies; Proper Usage of Sanitary Toilet; Maintenance & Servicing of Sanitary Toilet; & Employment Generation; Training will be provided by our Technology partner Stone India Ltd. Primary Recipients of training will be the girl students who will be using the toilets. Moreover maintenance & servicing part will be advocated to the School authority. contamination of diseases.

STONE INDIA LIMITED has been selected as the Technology partner of this project as they have expertise on this latest technology of Sanitary Toilets. Stone India Ltd , an 80 year old engineering Company and recipient of TDDP grant from Department of Scientific and Industrial Research under Ministry of Science and Technology for 'Design and Development of Biological Toilets ' is the implementing and Technology Partner for this Project assuming complete turnkey responsibility for 5 years. They have quoted concessional rates as part of their CSR Activity & will also be assisting in installation of Sanitary toilets in Girls School , training the beneficiaries and supply of service consumables.
