The Nejo Hospital and Community strongly support this project, as they have identified a number of cases where children and adults could have survived their afflictions had oxygen been available:
• Over one hundred patients have died in the last year waiting for life-saving surgery that could not be performed due to a lack of medical oxygen.
Establishing an oxygen generator in Nejo will replace distant Addis Ababa as the only current source of medical oxygen for Oromia. An oxygen generator in Nejo will be at most a five-hour trip for any hospital in the region, saving the estimated $300 per trip as it does not have to be made overnight, and making regular oxygen tank-filling much more likely. This will significantly improve every hospital's ability to perform emergency surgeries and relieve respiratory ailments much more quickly. Also, people making difficult trips to the hospitals from distant villages can be treated in one visit, rather than requiring two or more.
The Project funds will go toward buying the Oxygen Generator from the USA and shipping to Nejo, Ethiopia. Both the Host club and the International club will be fully involved, in fundraising and helping during implementation of the project.
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
