The Rotary Club of Steamboat Springs, Colorado USA D5440 has had a 10-year partnership with the Rotary Club of Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico DXXXX. Every year we take our Interact Club to Agua Prieta for service work at local orphanages there. Last year we created a $6000.00 District Grant to purchase water tanks bringing running water to 55 homes in Agua Prieta. The Mayor of Agua Prieta met us last year and indicated a need for a garbage truck. having been to Agua Prieta for the last 5 years I can assure you the need is there. Garbage is piled up on the outskirts of town with no pickup, creating a health and sanitation hazard.
We had a face-to-face meeting in Agua Prieta described in Document AGUA PRIETA GARBAGE TRUCK wherein a proposal was made that if we provide 230 water tanks (1,100 liter tanks for the roof of a home), the CMT charitable foundation will purchase 46% of a new garbage truck. We are pursuing both a District (P-1702) and Global Grant to pay for the $40,000 cost of the water tanks and our share of the garbage truck.
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
