Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Ecuador

Location: Zapotillo

Total Budget: $118,360

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

One of the most important issues in which we must work consistently is the provision of drinking water and environmental sanitation to dispersed rural families. In the 21st Century there are still families without this vital service, and they will stay like that for a long while since projects are expensive and they do not have enough political weight; therefore, they will not be taken care of.

Through the support of professionals from the UTPL and the search of resources, Rotary Club Loja Los Zarzas intend to carry out a project of provision of safe water and sanitation to rural families in the province of Loja, consisting of the installation of a small pumping system powered by a solar panel, a distribution tank, a basic sanitary unit (shower, hand basin and toilet), a faucet and kitchen counter, a wastewater treatment system, and the implementation of an organic family garden irrigated by gray water.

To improve the living conditions of 50 rural families in the province of Loja, through the provision of drinking water, infrastructure implementation, adequate wastewater management and the development of organic family gardens.

The project will take place in a community of the Zapotillo Canton, located in the Southern border of Ecuador with Peru, in a dry forest ecological formation.

We expect to start with this project in october 2017 and end in may 2018, with a duration of 18 months. This time has been calculated based on distances and conditions of access roads.
